TC performance issue, upgrade ?
Hi guys
Well it not new but it seem that TC need a real monster to run smooth,
it's sluttering on my rig even on medium texture (C2D E6750@3.4GHZ, 2GB RAM, 8800GT 512MB)
i'm running it on medium texture 1440x900 filter 2x/4x and it still sluttering sometime even after patch 1.2.1, this is very frustrating and i guess it will require a bit of hardware boost if i want to run it smooth.
i was planning to bump my ram to 6 GB and maybe go for a radeon 4850 1GB with it.
did somebody did something similar out of those perf issue and what was the result ?

I think you should scrap your system and buy a new one. Hey I'll even give you £50 for your old one
I'm running an Athlon64 3500, 2Gb ram and an X1950 pro and its runing ok on medium settings. That said I've only just started and hence haven't explored that many sectors which could have a lot to do with it.
Anyway I'd have thought that with your rig, it should run ok. Have you tried searching through the benchmark thread to compare with similar machines?

No way won't sell you my rig but you can buy something similar lol, but i realize and i have to try updating my sound driver maybe it will help, it seem that the memory leak is still very much here but it agreed that 2 GB is just not enougth on Vista
it's not sluttering all the time but only when i runn in a very busy sector, i have also explorer more that 100 sector so it can play into it
most of the time it's smooth but i'm very exigent and any slutter on rig such as mine are just not believable ....

i have saw that even on more powerfull computer it is also slugish kinda so ....Anyway I'd have thought that with your rig, it should run ok. Have you tried searching through the benchmark thread to compare with similar machines?

Fair enough. I'm not that concerned with the odd stutter/slowdown within reason and thats probably why I'm happy with the performance I'm getting so far.

Yes it's stuttering quite badly on my computer under certain circumstances, but ffdshow could be the cause of my problems, need to check that out.Manddrack wrote:Anyone else is facing the same dilemma ?
Either way, I'd wait for another patch or two before you go upgrading your rig, it's a decent spec and you are not alone in suffering this issue.

Why what is the different ?? I thought they said you need to put pre rendered higher for better performance ??gunman127 wrote:Make sure you've got Vsync ON, triple buffering ON, and pre-rendered frames set to 1.

Not quite useless--don't forget that the operating system needs some RAM in order to function, so even if X3 is only using 3Gb of RAM (which it'll only do if you fiddle around with the LARGEADDRESSAWARE flag in its executable header, incidentally) having 4Gb installed would probably help. More than that is overkill, certainly.drafzzz wrote:32 bit binarie can only adress 3GB. jump to 6GB is useless.

- definitely agree..gunman127 wrote:The OP has a great CPU, good GPU, and is at a normal resolution, so performance hiccus must be solvable with tweaking.
- you only need to double the RAM, and that's about all, IMO
- there are some known problems relating to over-stressing on the CPU
- and a patch to address this is bound to be coming at some point soon-ish
- but even so, with that rig (- which is a monster, compared to mine..!!)
- it should be running at maxed settings, apart from the known Textures and Glow thing..
- it's just gotta be tweakable, Shirley..
- the whole universe is running in BETA mode - we're working on it.. beep..!!

Looks like ffdshow was causing my issues, disabled it from affecting TC, and didn't get any stuttering during last nights gaming (though I did entirely fail to find any combat, so I may be judging too early). Loading each sector was also significantly faster, and lacked the annoying soundloop it used to have. Haven't noticed any soundclips lacking either. And even SETA (x6) was smooth.
And my system is a:
Core 2 Quad q6600 @ 2.4GHz
4GB RAM
GeForce 8800GTS 640MB
SoundBlaster Audigy Platinum 2 ZS
running game at:
1280x1024
All settings high (except AA which is 2x I think)
So your system is about the same as mine (much better in processing power), so you should be able to get good performance.
Even if you don't think you have ffdshow, have a look for it, it doesn't exactly advertise its presence.

the crank up to 6 GB is that i will certainly put the game LAA enable so i wanna max the RAM space (got vista 64 so it will manage) so have 3GB or more only for TC if i can tell him to load a max of thing into the RAM.
one BIG difference is that i use onboard sound i don't have dedicated sound card.
where do i set the pre-rendered frames to 1 ?
one though i something that i really dreamed to do i get my hand on a gigabyte IRAM and put my swapping drive on it then force the OS when loading a soft to load it on the RAM + swaping drive
