He's using the Ship-Hijacker script. Basically the same as boarding, but he's got to get within 5km, then get the shields to 0 and beam a computer component on board to take the ship.

I tried it out, but I'm too good of a pilot. I can take any ship with it without issue so the game isn't as much fun.

Yeah, the hijacker script is very very good. It can be a bit game breaking, but I'm hoping my inability to buy or make my own CCs (for now at least), will prevent that from happening. Does it seem too easy, even with the chipped ships retaining the CC? I might add some mitigating rules in if that's the case.

Only you can decide that. I was just surprised because I hadn't expected it. Given the nature of your protagonist (a sentient off shoot of the Xenon consensus itself) then capturing Xenon ships that way almost makes sense. Does the script allow for any kind of resistance on the part of the target ship or does getting the component on board guarantee a capture?

In my experience, getting the component on board guarantees the cap. There is a different version of the script that requires microchips instead, and I think that might have other variables, but I've never downloaded it.

Given your opposition, I'm willing to accept the Cap Script. Maybe you require the version with the microchip to cap anything larger than a Q? Or, maybe not. Time to Chip a TL, and steal the Station it's delivering?

I actually woke up thinking about this, this morning. My thoughts would be that there needs to be some kind of balance to it. Given both the nature and difficulty of your start scenario and rules I think the mod fits. I would simply recommend that you limit yourself with some kind of rules. So far you've only used it on abandoned ships and a Xenon Q. The abandoned ships nobody is going to argue with and the Q was Xenon, why shouldn't a self aware offshoot be able to reprogram it's brethren, right? On the other hand, I would suggest that you avoid using it on something like a Terran Kyoto, or other currently inhabited ship... at least without some kind of plausible explanation within the story.

That's my two cents anyway.

I haven't actually used it to claim any abandoned ships, that's been done via the system override software. Only the ships listed as 'chipped' in the asset list have been acquired using the script. And even they're only the ones deemed of immediate strategic value.

But yes, you're right, using it on every ship I come across would be very much game breaking. That's the reason for the rule regarding chipped ships retaining their chip. Plus, since I can't buy or build computer components of my own, it's down to luck how many times I might be able to actively use it. So far I've found 7, minus the three I've used (to capture the Mamba Vanguard, the Zephyrus and the Q), leaving me with 4.

There's also the issue of money. Since I can't trade, or sell ships to make money for hiring or training mercs (and at the rate I'm going my combat rank is sky-rocketing), this might be my only means of upgrading to higher class ships, for some time at least.

Aye. Understood. As I said earlier, you certainly didn't pick the easy way out. I guess the only niggle I still have worrying at the back of my brain is the idea of capturing inhabited capital ships that way but you're right, without a means to trade, build, or train marines you are pretty much limited to this as a means of expansion.

Well, I guess the only thing that really matters is that you're enjoying it and we're enjoying reading.

I like the check-and-balance that the microchips provide. What are your thoughts on capturing larger ships, like M1s and M2s? Certain number of chips, after the shields are down, or something? Or are you going to conquer the universe with a swarm of M7 and smaller craft?
