strange player logo

Post by Jon Tetrino » Mon, 20. Jun 05, 12:54

in my search for a way to animate the player logo i used a bitmap with every frame of what i wanted contained in it, one after another.

and look at the resultant player logo:

http://img282.echo.cx/img282/4577/x2screen421nm.jpg

of course the question i must ask now is why is it like that?

EDIT:::

Look at where the player logo should be on this

http://img282.echo.cx/img282/5291/x2screen636ai.jpg

u should see 8 dots of for different colours.

these animate

same picture i mentioned, but when the standard ship lights flash those 8 dots disappear, and just above them 9 dots appear for just a second, before going back to the original 8.

now this is interesting. below are various different angles of the logo on my shark:

http://img282.echo.cx/img282/9638/x2screen644zh.jpg

http://img282.echo.cx/img282/2496/x2screen654ct.jpg

http://img282.echo.cx/img282/4787/x2screen666gc.jpg

http://img282.echo.cx/img282/8258/x2screen673hp.jpg

http://img282.echo.cx/img282/7908/x2screen682ms.jpg

now i have a feeling its because i used a bitmap, but can someone shed light on this

more importantly the pattern u can see in a couple of the above shots on my shark.

btw the shark one still was animated with the lights, it just had a pattern to it.

I can not answer your question and to be honest I was more interested in your player stats. 12 days, Teladi Company Manager 56% (if I read it right). I'm struggling at 9%. Oh well.
Good luck.

EDIT
Spelt luck look first time. Works either way.

I've had that problem before. Therefore I just scoure the net for avatars and just use those instead. Avatars ranging form the expected like the MG badge I have or the unexpected like Raven from Teen Titans.

I had this problem. It is indeed what type of file you use. Cant remeber which one it is Jpeg or Bitmap but one works and the other dosent.

I have had this once, under different conditions though: I used custom image file
for player logo and then I had deleted it, which means that I had a logo which don't exist.

Images that are displayed as player logo are taken from tex\true folder, they're various
game texture files, I identified couple:

Your screen shot number
|_____Texture file in x2\tex\true folder
|_____|
|_____|
682 - 155.jpg
673 - 68.jpg
666 - 121.jpg
654 - 122.jpg

My guess is that player logo changes like this if:
-logo file is not found
-logo file is unreadable by the game(other than .jpg or .tga)

No, but it has a clear-cut advantage above JPG - it supports variable transparency though an alpha channel mask.

I've noticed weird graphics anomolies too when trying certain texture settings for ship parts. There is a way to animate your logo but...

You need to replace one of those animated displays from a cockpit with your separate logo frames. Be aware that by doing this your logo will appear everywhere those animated frames originally appeared and you will have to change every part of the game that uses them to use something else.
