[7.0 Beta 2] Observation Module Feedback
Hi,
Needless to say, I love these new modules. Thank you.
That said, I do have a little feedback. When placing the Conservatory and Pavilion variants, it's pretty obvious which view a given orientation of the module will give. However, with the Penthouse, it's not quite clear (unless I'm missing something) which way it'll be facing. Now, sure, this module is more about the "sky" (aka, above) view, rather than any given direction, but module placement is still key. For example, I placed a Penthouse on the top of my station (fitting lol) BUT I also wanted the view over a nearby Dock (6S3M) so I could watch traffic. Thankfully, I placed it correctly, with the entrance to the Penthouse on the opposite side to the dock, but I could easily have placed it wrong.
Right now, I'm placing a Penthouse on another station, again at the highest point, but now overlooking two docks. So, I can stand near, or even on, the table on the raised platform and have an excellent view of ship traffic. If I get it the wrong way around, I'll not get the view I want.
Basically, during the build phase, I want to ensure I place the module oriented exactly how I want. This does not seem clear to me currently.
Note: I think placing this module will default to north-facing, however, if the module it's placed on has any sort of rotation - which isn't always clear if it's 180 degree on symmetrical modules - it's possible to not get the desired alignment.
Needless to say, I love these new modules. Thank you.

Re: [7.0 Beta 2] Observation Module Feedback
Direction and facing indicators during station planning would be very useful for certain types of modules. I made a request in the main forum regarding docks.
Admitting you have a problem is the first step in figuring out how to make it worse.
Re: [7.0 Beta 2] Observation Module Feedback
Yep, I love these new modules aswell, but some method of making the orientation of them visually recogniseable would be good.
I have only used the Conservatory type so far, and assumed that "Up" facing was its logical orientation, so that when the player stands upon it they would be looking up .. Glad that assumption was correct, because I flipped it 180 degrees so that I would be looking down ..

.. When you are in the Conservatory, and you look up, you are actually looking down at the PHQ Rock.
Placing it though as mentioned was based on an assumption of how the developers defaulted its orientation, I guessed basicly.

Re: [7.0 Beta 2] Observation Module Feedback
I placed another Penthouse module, but this time on a different station. This time, rather than it being north-facing it's SOUTH facing. I.e. I exit the elevator into the Penthouse Module and I'm facing SOUTH rather than NORTH like I am in other stations.
Nothing special about this station, indeed it's from the exact same original BP as the other factory. I loaded the BP, then added the Penthouse manually as it's not part of the base BP. I placed it in the same spot and did not rotate anything, yet the game placed it backwards vs. to what I wanted. My intent was for it to overlook the two dock modules, exactly like in the prior station.
This reaffirms the need of some indication of which way these modules face as that direction is NOT fixed. I.e. it's not always North facing.
Now, the Penthouse is for placing on the TOP of stations I assume, for that Penthouse view. However, orientation still matters as standing near the little desk on the raised area is facing the wrong way on this new station. I will have to dismantle and rebuild to correct this.

Re: [7.0 Beta 2] Observation Module Feedback
If you zoom in to the module in the build menu, you should see the room as a holo display on top of the penthouse.
Based on this display, you are able to see the direction the room is facing.
There is currently a bug, that the room is displayed rotated by 180° compared to the real position in game.
What i wanted to say with this - the rotation is not random.
I have to think about a way on how to make it easier to see, as you cant zoom well to such modules on large station builds.

Yes, I have since noticed the difference when I zoom in - specifically because I was looking for something after the module oriented its self 180 degrees off from where it did last time.linolafett wrote: ↑Mon, 22. It is weird though. I mean, I made a basic station - just a 6S3M dock, and 8M dock and a single Pier, with Solid Storage - to act as a mining hub. Works well. I then saved this as a Blueprint. I later add the Penthouse module, which oriented to me entering it from the elevator facing North, exactly as I desired.
Using that saved Blueprint, I placed down another station elsewhere, then added the Penthouse module as before. However, this time, despite being the same base BP, adding the Penthouse saw it reversed 180 degrees.
I get that modules will snap based on the orientation of the module they snap to. But the snap module should have been the same, as it was from a BP.
As mentioned, I did fix the orientation. I deleted the module, added it again, then manually rotated it 180 degrees - something I didn't have to do on the original station... which was from the same BP.

Re: [7.0 Beta 2] Observation Module Feedback
I have added a small arrow geometry into the holograph of the module in the editor. It points into the diretion the deck is facing.
Please have a look in the next beta, if thats ok or if its still confusing.

Sounds good. While it is possible, as you say, to zoom in and see the difference, that arrow should make things 100% clear. I'll check it out when the next Beta lands. Thanks.linolafett wrote: ↑Tue, 23. Apr 24, 09:28I have added a small arrow geometry into the holograph of the module in the editor. It points into the diretion the deck is facing.

Re: [7.0 Beta 2] Observation Module Feedback
Thanks for the added orientation indicator, placement is clear now.
Some additional feedback on the module:
Whenever I'm in an Observation Modules, I'll stand to the left or right of the table to get a clear view of the action. While the circular Window looks like the perfect place to stand, it's a little too opaque for my liking, and the view is certainly better through the super clear glass either side of it.

Re: [7.0 Beta 2] Observation Module Feedback
I would like to have different room layouts for the modules. And more buttons like in the Astrid, for sun protection or Live View TV
