convert savegames to scenario

Hi, I have a potentially silly question. :lol: But is there any way to convert a savegame into a scenario so that it can be used as a template for custom games?

Heh, I actually proposed something similar once. The ability to take a mature save game, converting it so all Player assets turn into a Faction in their own right, then make that a custom game-start. I.e. the new player would start afresh, but there would be a player Empire from a prior save present, controlled by AI. Sorta silly, but I thought it might be kinda fun to play against, or allied with, your prior self :)

yepp, that was exactly my thought. It would be pretty cool if you could do that somehow.

I expect you could do it via a save game edit and some other magic. I.e. Create a new Faction, create a script to rename all player assets to that new faction, then add one (starting) ship for the actual player and load that save. Not tried it though.

There is a small mod from Realspace for XRSGE which can do that more or less

You create a custom start and then use it to create a new "The Young Gun" start

I've created my own character and scenarios in my game

It^s quite easy to do

and to use a save is a bit more complicated since the file tend to be quite large so it takes time to go through with notepad and .gz are a pain to open frankly

But you should try and follow the instruction first, it's quite fun to understand how everything works
