Re: Some interesting things i've noticed in the X4 promotional videos
Yes I don't contest that there have been some fps games which did zero gravity well. But that would mean that the Egosoft team would need to spend twice as long to develop the game at the same level of quality because they'd effectively need to make 2 games in one. As we saw with Rebirth it's not e...

Re: Some interesting things i've noticed in the X4 promotional videos
FPS combat just wouldn't work as well as some people seem to think it would in an X game. Most people who play X games enjoy them because they are set in space. It's a magical, otherworldly experience. FPS games (the type where you run around with a rifle shooting things) don't really work very wel...

All I'm going to say is, if Egosoft manages to beat Star Citizen to a release version of a solid FPS/spaceflight hybrid, I will NEVER stop laughing about it.

Re: Screenshot of the Day
How about two opposing Colossi, with different paint patterns, shooting at each other, viewed from the bridge of a third Colossus?

Re: Targetting stations
You can do this for anything actually, not just stations. As its in Rebirth I expect it will be in X4, but probably improved or streamlined? Yup, with stations being as big as they are, targeting them as a whole is less meaningful than targeting their modules or sub-components. I DO hope the guidan...

Re: Screenshot of the Day
Actually yeah, I like the flat highways. Maybe not as realistic, strictly speaking, but the sort of Rainbow Road aesthetic is pretty awesome. It also looks a lot like the highways now have little repeater rings at regular intervals, like in Freelancer - I wonder if that's all of them or just the one...

Re: Screenshot of the Day
Given that Paranid are supposed to be physically the strongest of the Commonwealth races, and can rival even a Split in a one-on-one fight, I'd count myself lucky to have any remaining unbroken bones. :P Split have been retconned though havent they? In XR they are the same size and build as humans....

Re: Screenshot of the Day
I tend to agree - the nids are slender enough that they could probably fit through that middle section pretty easily. The long arms and what appears to be a really spacious cranial area on the helmet also support that. Lordy it would be fun to get into a blaster fight with this guy. :D According th...

Point taken, though managing to explode something that was doing a really good job of keeping itself from being exploded is even more satisfying.Sandalpocalypse wrote: ↑Thu, 25. Oct 18, 22:31its because exploding things is more satisfying than them running away

Re: Piracy
Same with any ship vs. any ship, to be honest - military vs. military should respond more or less the same way, with some additional variables like whose territory they're in, nearby friendly/enemy vessels that might assist, captain recklessness/competence score, a brief supplication to RNGsus, et c...

Re: Piracy
There is a game called Avorion and right now it's Early Access on Steam. It's a little like the X series, but a lot unlike it. Anyway, the pirates in Avorion will actively extort money from you and if you don't pay they start attacking. If you run, they follow. If you jump away, they jump too. They...

Re: Screenshot of the Day
I should have mentioned i adjusted the brightness and contrast etc... trying to remove the dark filter. I also knew it was a split ship so added some purple/red to the colour to make it more vibrant. I believe it's probably *not* Split actually, as we've been informed that there aren't going to be ...

I am WAY into bridge positions like this, where you get a nice view of the deck. Hoping for some destroyer designs with similar bridges so we can watch all the deck guns sounding off.

Re: Random crazy idea -- being able to do OOS stuff on mobile
I had a thought some time ago about an X4 API (or some other variety of software interface) that would let external programs both detect and trigger events in-game. This is one of the more attractive possibilities that such an interface would allow - some kind of in-browser or otherwise separate-dev...

Re: Localised damage
I will accept nothing less than this level of damage detail. :D I would more legitimately be interested to see how *small* ship component damage will work - like, if fighters' components take damage when struck directly like Rebirth's big ships, or if it's more like X3 where RNGsus picks a module to...

Re: Screenshot of the Day
There appears to have been a, uh... minor incident at this here station. Great showcase of the destructible-by-module mechanic. I wonder how we go about restoring or tearing down destroyed modules...
